MBL2 and infection: MBL genotypic deficiency has been reported in association with a wide range of infectious phenotypes, including susceptibility to generalised childhood infection, invasive pneumococcal disease, severe sepsis, meningococcal sepsis, severe infection following chemotherapy and allogeneic haemopoietic stem cell transplantation, and prolonged duration of neutropaenic fever in children with malignancy, in addition to susceptibility to autoimmune conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus [3,4,6-13].
