Interestingly, four of the differentially expressed proteins identified in the rdd retina—valosin-containing protein, stathmin 1, 40S ribosomal protein S12, and nucleoside diphosphate kinase—have been shown to exhibit altered expression following proteomic analysis in animal models of the human neurodegenerative pathologies, Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases [23]. This evidence concerns the gene VCP and Parkinson disease.
