Similar to many other tumours, the progression of NB is associated with the activity of MMPs that promote the invasion of the extra-cellular matrix by tumoural cells and trigger angiogenesis by different modalities, such as the release of vascular endothelial growth factor, the recruitment of pericytes along endothelial cells and the mobilisation of haematopoietic stem cells into circulation (Sugiura et al, 1998; Bergers et al, 2000; Heissig et al, 2002; Chantrain et al, 2004). This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and neuroblastoma.
