Based on genome-wide association studies that mapped a gene linked to obesity in the region of chromosome 10 where TCF8 is located (10p11.2) [9], [11]–[13] and on the roles of its resultant protein, ZEB1, in mesenchymal tissue differentiation [15]–[19], we speculated that ZEB1 contributes to the transcriptional regulatory cascades that modulate adipogenesis and/or lipogenesis. Here, ZEB1 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
