Similar to previous observations made for other members of the IgCAM superfamily, such as intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1 [MIM 147840]) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1 [MIM 192225]) [40]–[43], these results suggest that MAMDC1 expression could increase during inflammation, and it is tempting to speculate that its potential role in SLE might be related to the dysregulation of immune functions typical of this disease. This evidence concerns the gene MDGA2 and systemic lupus erythematosus.
