Mice deficient in both SR-BI and apolipoprotein E (SR-BI/apoE double knockout (dKO) mice) fed a normal chow diet not only exhibit dramatically enhanced hypercholesterolemia and accelerated aortic root atherosclerosis [12], but also exhibit rapid onset occlusive coronary artery atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction and premature death (mean age of death ∼6 weeks of age) [11]. This evidence concerns the gene APOE and myocardial infarction.
