In prostate cancer, a number of studies have indeed shown methylation in the promoter region of the AR leading to its inactivation; however, the frequency of methylation seems to be low (Jarrard et al. 1998; Kinoshita et al. 2000; Nakayama et al. 2000; Sasaki et al. 2002; Yamanaka et al. 2003). The gene discussed is AR; the disease is prostate carcinoma.
