LCAT and cardiovascular disorder: It has long been known that exercise training can reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) by modifying lipoprotein and lipid concentrations.1,2 Specifically, exercise has been shown to reduce the main plaque- and thrombosis-forming lipoprotein cholesterol, namely low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C).3 Exercise can lower LDL-C concentrations since it results in increased lipoprotein and lipid metabolism, presumably via an increased activity of cholesterol ester transfer protein (CETP), lecithin-cholesterol acyl transferase (LCAT) and lipoprotein lipase (LPL).
