ACAT1 and Cognitive impairment: In addition, the fact that some AD-FDR tend to display a metabolic cholesterol pattern similar to that of AD patients, may suggest that the determination of PBMC ORO staining and plasma HDL-C levels may be useful for identification of a subset of midlife subjects who might run a major risk of developing AD; and the identification of incipient AD-related cognitive impairment would be the basis for initiation of treatment with drugs that might slow or stop the degenerative process, such as ACAT inhibitors [29-31].
