At first glance, the finding that DKC1 is overexpressed in common carcinomas seems somewhat paradoxical, given that dyskerin-inactivating mutations in dyskeratosis congenita predispose to cancer development, and DKC1 is downregulated in sporadic CLL (Poncet et al, 2008). The gene discussed is DKC1; the disease is B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
