EGFR, a soluble growth factor receptor which has been shown to be decreased in individuals with breast carcinoma [42], non-small cell lung carcinoma, and head and neck carcinoma [43] and to be lower with increased melanoma tumor burden [44], appeared to have a protective effect in our study cohort – levels increased with increasing FEV1% and decreasing WA%. The gene discussed is EGFR; the disease is melanoma.
