Our previous study on 76 patients with ovarian carcinoma treated during the period of cisplatin-based chemotherapy before the introduction of paclitaxel revealed that there was a tendency towards a poorer prognosis in advanced stage patients with positive BRCA1 expression, i.e., overall survival was 17.7 ± 8.9 months for BRCA1-positive versus 31.6 ± 25.9 months for BRCA1-negative patients (Wang et al. 2004). This evidence concerns the gene BRCA1 and ovarian carcinoma.
