We also recently observed that DRAK2 may be important in the ability of COX-2 to protect cardiomyocytes from doxorubicin-induced apoptosis (Neilan et al, 2006), suggesting that the modulation of DRAK2 expression may not be confined to cancer but may also be important in the positive effects of COX-2 on cell viability and tissue healing in other systems. The gene discussed is PTGS2; the disease is cancer.
