This observation indicates that downregulation of E-cadherin alone is not enough to induce an EMT in vivo, contrary to the perception of E-cadherin as a master regulator of EMTs [36,37], but supported by the observation that forced expression of E-cadherin cannot reverse the EMT-induced, mesenchymal phenotype in experimental breast cancer [33,34].
