Recently, we utilized an OPN directed RNA aptamer (OPN-R3) to inhibit in vivo and in vitro metastatic function of the MDA-MB231 human breast cancer cell line.[6] Our results indicated that RNA aptamer binding of OPN blocks interaction with its cell surface receptors to significantly inhibit adhesion, migration and invasion in vitro and local progression and distant metastases in an in vivo xenograft model. The gene discussed is CD177; the disease is breast carcinoma.
