Three patients without CNS infection had lower MIF levels in CSF than in blood (one patient with pneumonia [2,660 ng/l versus 4,955 ng/l, respectively] and two with fever of unknown origin [366 ng/l versus 1,371 ng/l and 83 ng/l versus 1,864 ng/l]), whereas one patients with hepatitis due to cytomegalovirus had higher MIF levels in CSF than in blood (1,989 ng/l versus 207 ng/l). This evidence concerns the gene MIF and hepatitis A virus infection.
