In one recently published study, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from zinc-deficient elderly showed impaired NF-κB activation and interleukin (IL)-2 production in response to stimulation with PHA, which was corrected by in vivo supplementation of zinc (45 mg/day as gluconate) for 6 months or ex vivo supplementation of zinc to PBMC [33], indicating a link between zinc deficiency and the effect of zinc on NF-κB signaling. Here, NFKB1 is linked to Zinc deficiency.
