Despite the well accepted role of Bcl-2 in melanocyte survival, its contribution to chemoresistance of metastasized melanoma remains unclear, because high Bcl-2 expression in primary melanomas did not correlate with a worsening of prognosis [67], and even reduced expression levels were found in metastases, where Bcl-xL and Mcl-1 were upregulated [68]. This evidence concerns the gene BCL2L1 and melanoma.
