To illustrate the effect of delirium on S100B, levels of three different example patients with an intertrochanteric hip fracture were calculated and are presented in figure 1: 1) a patient who was delirious from one day before operation until eight days after operation (continuously delirious), 2) a patient who was never delirious during this period (continuously non-delirious), and 3) a patient who was delirious from the day after operation until postoperative day four (delirious day 1–4). This evidence concerns the gene S100B and delirium.
