PLAUR and infection: The increased influx of phagocytes might temporarily compensate for theimpaired phagocytosis in uPAR deficient leukocytes and temporarily controldissemination of Borrelia. However, as shown by our in vivo data,in uPAR knock-out mice, B. burgdorferi will eventually manage todisseminate resulting in increased B. burgdorferi numbers indistant organs during later stages of infection compared to WT animals (Figure 2 and 5).
