Artemisinin, an active constituent of Chinese wormwood (Artemisia absinthium – Figure 3) is a potent antimalarial, however more recently it has been shown to possess anti-angiogenic properties, acting by lowering both VEGF and its receptor (VEGF-R2(in embryo), KDR(in humans) and flk-1(in mice)) in tumour and endothelial cells in a dose-dependent manner [56-59].
