In colorectal cancer, where EGFR is overexpressed in a consistent number of cases, cetuximab and panitumumab, two monoclonal antibodies (MoAbs) that recognise the extracellular domain of the receptor leading to its inactivation, have entered in clinical practice for the treatment of metastatic disease (Ciardiello and Tortora, 2008). This evidence concerns the gene EGFR and colorectal cancer.
