This observation is consistent with a recent report of Lubrano-Bethelier et al. showing that obese adults carriers of functionally relevant MC4R mutations do not specifically present with a history of early onset obesity [12] and with the report of Stutzman et al showing a prevalence of MC4R mutations of 1.6% among obese adults [13]. The gene discussed is MC4R; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
