CD209 and tuberculosis: Vannberg et al. (2008) demonstrated that allele −336G is associated with protection against tuberculosis in the population of sub-Saharan Africa. Conversely, the −336G variant has been associated with susceptibility to HIV infection, haemorrhagic dengue and tuberculosis, suggesting that high levels of DC-SIGN expression permit better capture and processing of the antigens (Barreiro et al., 2006a; Martin et al., 2004; Sakuntabhai et al., 2005).
