Among those genes are ASCL2 and ASCL3, mammalian homologues of Drosophila achaete-scute complex [36], as well as TRIM3, a homologue of Drosophila brain tumor involved in progenitor cell proliferation control and cancer stem cell suppression [19], and a cluster of more distantly related TRIM genes (see Figure 1). The gene discussed is TRIM3; the disease is brain neoplasm.
