These results combined with the previous findings of hypocretin fibers and receptors in the vlPAG/dDpMe region [4], [23], [24] support the hypothesis that the SOREM and the cataplexy seen in narcoleptics could be due to the lack of an excitatory hypocretin input to the PS-off GABAergic neurons of the vlPAG/dDpMe region (Figure 6).
