The densest cluster of such associations was observed for Crohn's disease and HDL cholesterol in the 3' region of a monocarboxylate transporter, SLC16A7, also known as MCT2. Notably a related monocarboxylate transporter, MCT1, was shown to be decreased in expression in the inflamed colonic mucosa of patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease relative to controls [7]. Here, SLC16A7 is linked to Crohn disease.
