To investigate whether the increased lipoprotein concentrations in another model of hyperlipoproteinemia can also protect against salmonellosis, hyperlipoproteinemic ApoE−/− mice (total serum cholesterol, 16.1±3.7 vs. 1.9±0.2 mmol/L [14]) were infected i.v. with 102 cfu of S. typhimurium. The gene discussed is APOE; the disease is salmonellosis.
