Regardless of the function of the BRG1-p16INK4a complex, it is evident that BRG1 expression can be lost relatively early in melanoma development, with a significant proportion (> 70%) of primary melanomas showing no detectable BRG1 expression, while BRM expression was usually maintained in these tumors (< 20% loss).
