A similar pattern of terminal retraction and neurite outgrowth from HCs and RBs has also been reported in the late stages of the RCS retinal degeneration [22], retinal degenerations associated with the nob2 mutant mouse [23,24]; with the knockouts of bassoon [25,26], CaBP2 [27], and retinoschisin [28]; with the mid-stages of the double rod–cone knockout [29]; as well as in retinopathy induced by vigabatrin [30]—all suggesting that they are common responses to photoreceptor degeneration. The gene discussed is CABP2; the disease is retinal degeneration.
