In conclusion, these preliminary findings suggest that treatment with 4 g of omega 3 fatty acids added to higher doses of fluvastatin in diabetic patients with mixed hyperlipidemia is accompanied by a significant additional benefit in apolipoprotein B48-containing particles and may thus represent a complementary therapy for the reduction of LDL cholesterol, non-HDL cholesterol and B100 to that achieved with statins alone.
