Ina study by Taveres-Murta et al.,increased levels of NO metabolites in the tumor microenvironment were found inpatients with ovarian cancer, but not in patients with benign neoplasia [19].Similarly, supernatants of cell cultures obtained from well-differentiated,malignant ovarian tumors were found to contain higher levels of NO metabolitescompared to cell cultures from patients with poorly differentiated tumors [36].However, to our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate both intracysticNO production and iNOS expression from the same tumor tissue. The gene discussed is NOS2; the disease is ovarian cancer.
