In multivariate models adjusted for APOE4 allele and having ever smoked (Table 2), the upper two quartiles of SAC, implying good cardiovascular function, were significantly associated with an increase in prevalent AMD (OR = 2.04, 95%CL = 1.05, 3.95 for quartile 3 and OR = 2.54, 95% CL = 1.29, 4.99 for quartile 4) and the test for linear trend between SAC and prevalent AMD was statistically significant (Mantel Haenszel chi-squared = 4.73, p = 0.03). Here, APOE is linked to age-related macular degeneration.
