The ADAM metalloproteinase disintegrins, including ADAM17 and ADAM10, have been described as prominent sheddases for p75NTR as well as other transmembrane type-1 receptors such as APP [71–73], with recent in vivo evidence establishing a correlation with glioma invasion and an increase in ADAM17 under hypoxic stress [74,75]. The gene discussed is ADAM17; the disease is central nervous system cancer.
