CD36 and malaria: Two SNPs in the CD36 gene, T1264G in exon 10 and G1439C in exon 12, that encode truncated CD36 proteins and are the molecular basis of CD36 deficiency were found in high frequency in Kenyan and Gambian patients suffering from severe malaria [12] while another study on patients from Kenya reported association of the T1264G heterozygote with protection from severe malaria in children [13].
