It was demonstrated that a switch in MAT expression in liver cancer (from MAT1A to MAT2A) played an important pathogenetic role by facilitating liver cancer growth [1] The importance of MAT expression on liver phenotypephenotype was confirmed in the MAT1A knockout mouse model where replacement of MAT1A with MAT2A resulted in eventual development of HCC [2,3]MAT1A is expressed mostly in normal liver and it encodes theα1 subunit. Here, MAT2A is linked to hepatocellular carcinoma.
