Cyclooxygenase-2 is overexpressed in cholangiocarcinoma cells (Wu et al, 2002), is involved in apoptosis in these cells (Sirica et al, 2001), and its inhibition by Celecoxib has been shown in vivo to induce apoptosis in them (Wu et al, 2003). The gene discussed is PTGS2; the disease is cholangiocarcinoma.
