In the case of SCA7 and a number of other highly unstable CAG/CTG repeat loci, including HD, DM1, SCA2, and dentatorubral-pallidoluysian atrophy, binding sites for a protein known as CTCF (i.e. the “CCCTC binding factor”) have been found [14]. The gene discussed is CTCF; the disease is dentatorubral-pallidoluysian atrophy.
