Before accounting for any of the covariates, those HIV-positive persons categorized to B*57-NPD had an ∼83% lower risk of progressing to AIDS compared to individuals who lacked a HLA-B*57 allele (RH = 0.17; 95% CI = 0.07–0.41; Table 4, model 1). The gene discussed is HLA-B; the disease is AIDS.
