The principal components of these experimental vaccines that block transmission of malaria parasites to Anopheles are the epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like domains of Pfs25 (of P. falciparum) or Pvs25 (of P. vivax), a glycosylphosphatidyl inositol (GPI)-anchored surface protein of the mosquito-stage zygotes and ookinetes of the parasite [85-87].
