Third, this set of 20 genes was compared with genes identified to be misregulated under unique retinal injury conditions such as diabetes [31], ischemia-reperfusion injury [32], retinal tears [33], elevation of intraocular pressure [34], laser-induced injury [35], photoreceptor degeneration induced by a photoreceptor-specific cadherin knockout [36], as well as a model of bright-light damage [36] (Table 2, columns 8 and 9). The gene discussed is CDH17; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
