While it was unclear whether the T allele of the LDLR polymorphism rs2228671 also affects coronary artery disease risk the relatively high prevalence of the minor allele (frequency 11%) made it plausible that the contribution of rs2228671 to the variability of LDL-C serum levels also translates to a modification in CAD risk at the population level.
