Lahn et al. speculate that PKCα overexpression may represent an important cellular event leading to enhanced tumor progression, as they concluded that MCF-7 breast cancer cells transfected with PKCα had reduced expression of E-cadherin and β-catenin, resulting in a loss of cell-cell adhesion and thus in a more aggressive tumor phenotype [38].
