We find that several genes involved in calcium ion transport (Casr, Plcg1 and Atp2a2) and calcium binding (e.g., Bcan, Egfl4, Dag1, Stat3, Capn1) are upregulated in the gp120 + ddC model suggesting that changes in calcium regulation may contribute to the development of neuropathy and merit further investigation. This evidence concerns the gene CAPN1 and neuropathy.
