The protective association of the less common 'Ala' allele at codon 12 of PPARG2 gene has been consistently reproduced in multiple independent studies conducted in different populations [22,27-31] with few exceptions of small studies e.g. Oji-Cree [32] and Czech [33], where the Ala allele was shown to be associated with T2D risk. This evidence concerns the gene PPARG and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
