FGF2 and ankylosis: Animal tests have revealed that in artificial models of periodontal tissue defect in beagles [13], [15] and non-human primates (M. fascicularis) [14], FGF-2 significantly stimulates neogenesis of alveolar bone, periodontal ligament and cementum, without invoking abnormal effects such as down-growth of the gingival epithelia, resorption of the dental root or ankylosis.
