Methylation of these two genes is clearly associated with each other and with methylation of RASSF1 and BLU, which are ∼12 Mb centromeric from DLEC1. MLH1 methylation itself does not lead to gene silencing in lung cancer and the biological significance of DLEC1 methylation also needs further study. The gene discussed is RASSF1; the disease is lung carcinoma.
