Although the precise underlying mechanisms responsible for the increase of MnSOD expression in ovarian cancer remain unclear at the present time, MnSOD has been shown to be inducible by multiple factors such as hypoxia, ROS, and inflammatory cytokines including interleukin-1 and tumour necrosis factor (Masuda et al, 1988; Wong and Goeddel, 1988). This evidence concerns the gene SOD2 and ovarian cancer.
