Genetic factors as well as environmental factors are important to the development of NAFLD [5-8], and the gene for peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator 1α (PPARGC1A) is a candidate gene for susceptibility to NAFLD, since it is involved in insulin resistance, mitochondrial biogenesis, and oxidative phosphorylation, which are key factors in the development of NAFLD [9-11]. Here, PPARGC1A is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
