Over expression of syndecan-1 has been observed in pancreatic, gastric and breast carcinomas, correlating with increased tumor aggressiveness and poor clinical prognosis, while syndecan-2 is often over expressed in colon carcinoma, and syndecan-4 is up-regulated in hepatocellular carcinoma [30], coinciding with heparanase up-regulation in these carcinomas [22], [25]. This evidence concerns the gene SDC2 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
